企業だけでなく、大学もグローバル化を迫られている今、理系・文系を問わず、「英語の４技能」を持つ学生が求められています。高度な専門職業人として、また国際的な研究者を育成するために、英語運用能力を集中的に鍛え上げるカリキュラムの企画・立案と実施の管理を行っています。
カリキュラム
研究大学である東北大学では、学部を問わず、working language（共通言語）として英語が使われている。したがって、本学の学生は専門領域の知識や教養を身に付ける際、英語を通じて知識を取り入れ、英語を使って考察・発表・執筆する機会を持つこととなる。このような学術目的英語の土台（一般にEnglish for General Academic Purposeと呼ばれている）を作るために提供されるのが、全学教育科目としての英語科目（1・2年次）である。
1年次では4つの英語科目（English I-A、English I-B、English II-A、English II-B）を履修することになるが、各科目には2つのobjectivesが設定されており、それぞれのobjectiveに対して2つのcore skillsが配置されている。2年次（English C）では、1年次で身に付けたcore skillsを用いて、エッセイの執筆、プレゼンテーションを行う。
