企業だけでなく、大学もグローバル化を迫られている今、理系・文系を問わず、「英語の４技能」を持つ学生が求められています。高度な専門職業人として、また国際的な研究者を育成するために、英語運用能力を集中的に鍛え上げるカリキュラムの企画・立案と実施の管理を行っています。
カリキュラム
研究大学である東北大学では、学部を問わず、英語が共通言語（working language）として使用されています。そのため、本学の学生は専門知識や教養を身につける際、英語を通じて情報収集を行い、英語で考察・発表・執筆する機会を持つことになります。全学教育科目として提供される英語科目（1・2年次）は、このような一般学術目的の英語の基盤を構築することを目的としています。
1年次には、4つの英語科目（English I-A、English I-B、English II-A、English II-B）を履修します。各科目には2つの目的（objectives）が設定されており、それぞれの目的達成のために2つの主要スキル（core skills）が組み込まれています。2年次に開講される2つの科目（English III: Integrated Academic Presentation、English III e-learning）では、1年次で培ったcore skillsを用いてアカデミックプレゼンテーションを行うとともに、オンライン英語教材を活用して学術英語の4技能をさらに向上させます。
