I earned a Ph.D. in linguistics from the University of Michigan in the U.S. I was engaged in Japanese language education at universities in the U.S. for a total of nine years, including my time as a teaching assistant before the completion of my doctorate. Since I started working at Tohoku University, I have been in charge of Japanese language education for international students at the university as well as linguistics studies and education contributing to language education at the graduate school level. During this time, I have also served as a visiting researcher at Harvard University in the U.S. and as a visiting professor at Chulalongkorn University in Thailand.
